NOTICE . . . FY19 TEACHER PAY RAISES and other compensation
Average Teacher salary is based on those teachers who worked both fiscal years. Average teacher salary is computed on education and experience only, for a 180-day school year. Base compensation does not include Classroom Site Fund, Title II, Instructional Improvement or any extra duty hours or after school activities stipends, which can add $5K to $7K to a teacher's annual salary. In addition, teachers receive fully paid medical and dental insurance; the district also matches Social Security, Arizona State Retirement and long term disability, which equates to over 19% in addition to gross pay.
Example: The base salary for a first year teacher with a Bachelor's Degree for the last three fiscal years: FY 2017= $30,788; FY 2018= $32,930; FY2019 = $35,000;
District paid insurance: FY2017=$6,607; FY2018=$6,906; FY2019=$7,305
Over these three fiscal years, teachers salaries increased 12%, and insurance 9%.
Average Teacher Salary
FY18-19  $41,486
FY17-18  $38,899
FY16-17  $36,228
FY15-16  $34,948
FY14-15  $38,172
It should be noted that average salaries are based on all teachers and can be skewed by losing teachers with many years of service and replacing them with new teachers with less years of service and therefore lower on the salary schedule.
